Visit the dead this month

That's Bishop Clark's suggestion for November, by tradition "the month of the dead." It's a good idea for several reasons: (1) the dead need our prayers, (2) it reinforces a truth of our faith, (3) it's a work of mercy, and (4) it sets a good example for our children (ditto for visiting elderly relatives and friends, especially if they are in retirement homes). We'll likely make a trip to Rochester's Holy Sepulchre Cemetery the Friday after Thanksgiving.
One final suggestion. If it is possible for you, you might think about visiting the place of burial of one or some of the deceased for whom you decide to pray during the month of November.

Pope Benedict offered similar sentiments in yesterday's Angelus address.

To pray for the living and the dead is certainly a fine and holy suggestion. This is really a fine column by Bishop Clark. Let's give him his due and pray for him as well.

Yes, anon. It is a fine column.

I didn't read the column, so this may be repetitious. Visiting a cemetery during the first nine days of November, along with the other requisite conditions, may result in a plenary indulgence.
