"We apologize for the Pope's insensitivity and ignorance."

As the folks at Cleansing Fire put it, who said the situation at St. Anne's of Rochester couldn't get any worse?

The quote at the top of the post is from a new pastoral associate reacting to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith's 2007 document on whether Vatican II changed Catholic doctrine on the Church. (It didn't, which appears to disappoint her.)

Keep writing the CDF, my Rochester readers; it's the best chance you have for a faithful shepherd in 2012.

More here on the extent to which the parish has been "fertilized."

I think her beef was with the idea the Catholic Church was affirmed as the Church of Christ, which means her former Presbyterian Church is not.

However, if she is now a Catholic, which she claims to be, you'd think she recognize that the Catholic Church truly is God's Church. Her loyalties are in question.

The Holy Father represents the entire Catholic Church, her included. I can't believe this individual has the gall to pretend that she is somehow immune from the rule of the Supreme Pontiff.

Couldn't Rochester get a faithful bishop before 2012? Like, say, July 5th, 2009?

Sure, PM. But the Holy See has set the bar fairly high; the only two bishops that have been removed in the past dozen years have both faced criminal indictment. Rome has been deluged with mail concerning Bishop Clark's destruction of the diocese for decades.

She needs to be removed immediately. A Pastoral Associate has no right to speak of the Pope this way. This isn't "America", this is the Catholic Church, which has its own laws and ethics. And she has violated them.

If Rome knows about us, why don't they help us? Are we forgotten? It is starting to fee lonely!

Anybody planning a trip to Rome in the near future?

We may have to think about passing out flyers at the Vatican or renting a billboard, close to the Vatican, so that we can get Pope Benedict's attention on the Diocese of Rochester.

The old saying may be true: the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

The loudest complaints get the most attention.

The news just keeps on getting worse for the people of St. Anne. Our prayers are for them in their time of suffering.
