If the Pope was open to bribery

During the Q&A segment of Fr. Benedict Groeschel's June 14 Sunday Night Live program on EWTN, he fielded a question on communion in the hand. You can listen to his memorable response at about minute 44 of a recording of the program. Here is a transcription:
Someone, whom I am afraid will have a long stay in Purgatory, got the bright idea that people should receive in the hand. Supposedly, this was going to make people feel closer to Christ. As far I am concerned, it’s an experiment that’s been a disaster. I see disrespect and irreverence so often. By no means everybody – lots of people take the Body of Christ, receive it respectfully, and go back to their place. Others act like they haven’t the slightest idea what they’re doing. And if the Pope was open to bribery, which he is not, I would like to win the Lotto and bribe him to prohibit communion on the hand. However, I’m a good soldier. I’m a priest. I don’t make up the laws of the Church. So if you go to communion to me and put out your hand, you will receive the Body of Christ. But I’m very much happier when you receive it on the tongue. When I am in a circumstance where I am able to receive Holy Communion, when I’m not celebrating Mass, I receive it on the tongue. Some people may be annoyed by my response. But like everybody else, I’ve got a right to my opinion.

(Yes, this is a familiar -- and perhaps overdone -- topic on St. Blog's. But EWTN reaches quite a few more people. I would imagine most of his viewers haven't been exposed to such an honest critique before.)

That's one of my favorite explainations from him.

Never mind that -- Rocco has just reported that The Holy Father and The Wun will meet next month.

This is nothing short of a disaster.

There will be pictures taken of the two of them together, and those pictures, by themselves, will graphically symbolize the Holy Father's approval of The Wun's policy of unlimited babykilling.

Remember how the Vatican prevented any pictures of the Pelosi visit earlier this year?

In other words, this will be FAR WORSE than the Notre Shame fiasco.

UNLESS the Holy Father "gets all up in his face" and really Preaches It to The Wun. "Your policy of unlimited babykilling, sir, is the epitome of the Reign of Evil. Repent now, or you will be show in the next life the same mercy you showed to fifty million unborn dead, and counting."

The Secretariat of State was supposed to PREVENT this meeting from happening -- what happened?

As a priest friend of mine says, Communion in the hand is demonic, I love when priests give their honest answers on tough questions.

As for Zero meeting the Pope, as long as there's no camera's all shall be well.

I know of a priest of the Diocese of Syracuse who was formally reprimanded by Bps. Moynihan and Costello for promotion of kneeling and communion on the tongue. Piety bothers some people.

Gotta love Fr. Groeschel; always good for an honest and candid response. It's a little uncomfortable making the switch to receiving communion on the tongue after being raised receiving it in the hand, but to receive Christ directly from the blessed hand of one of His priests made it worthwhile to me!

Fr. Groeschel's comments are good news for me...and it's all about me...(-*

The Holy Father will engage w/ BO? Sounds like Pius X11 meeting Adolph Hitler - except Hitler at least was honest enough not to pursue that course...(-* BO doesn't even have a "villian's honor"...

"If the Pope was open to bribery"...

Bishop Clark would be in retirement.

Well, as someone who is still trying to figure out how a guy who just 10 years ago was a "community organizer" (i.e. street hustler) got to be POTUS without selling his soul to the devil, I think that meeting BXVI will do him some good. Maybe the Holy Father can sprinkle some holy water on him and see if he screams....
